Towards the attainment of sustainable supply chain, Pagell and Wu (2009) proposed that organizations must have managerial cognition that is driven by the alignment of environmental and financial goals. Businesses can only achieve these goals if sustainability is incorporated in all sectors of their supply chain.
They suggested that this goal can be attained through collaboration that adds value to services and products, there by protecting the supply chain and improving finances of businesses. Pagell and Wu (2009) also proposed that for successful supply chain management, there must be a deeper social dimension which is best depicted in the quality of supply. This deep social dimension is achieved through the possession of better traceability of materials, attainment of continuous supply base and transparency in prices.
