There are different ways in which water can be harnessed to provide energy. Water is estimated to be around 800 times denser than air. This means that even a small stream of water can be tapped to provide energy.
The different forms of water energy include; hydroelectric energy, wave power, dam less hydro among others. The main form of water energy is the hydroelectric energy. This form usually involves the creation of dams that are used to trap water that is used to drive turbines that create energy.
Hydroelectricity is preferred since it can produce many megawatts of energy while compared to solar energy. The main disadvantage with hydroelectric power is the fact that it cannot be stored.
