Children’s perception of media violence has increased incidents and rates of violence and has made it significant to understand what children think about their experiences as victims or witnesses to violence.

The most damaging effects of media violence on young children are duplication indifference and lack of concern because of their incessant exposure to violence in media. Although there is extensive literature available about the effect of media violence on children, there is very little literature about the perception that children have about media violence.

However, there is an increasing awareness about Children’s perception of media violence and children must also be asked about their views about media violence. It is not necessary that children have the same perceptions about media violence that adults have because their perceptions are according to the impacts that events create on them and not because of research or legislation.

To find solutions for this increasing problem of media violence and its effect on children, it is better to try and understand the children’s personal views. In this way, it is possible to find solutions that recognize the severity of the problem and strategies to deal with them in a manner that is acceptable to children.

Children’s perception of media violence and viewpoint on media violence is according to Article 12 of the 1989 United Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCROC). This article emphasizes that children have the right to be heard and the importance of their views should not be dismissed without due consideration. It is obvious that children’s perceptions be considered and factors that can alleviate these issues should be explored cohesively.

Even for video games, violence gets the lowest rankings for girls and is not a favorite with boys either.  For most children, violence in programs is not a strong attraction. Children like thrills and competition in games but not violence.

In discussions with children selected for surveys, the children were asked what they understood by the term “violent act”. To them, it means any action that can cause harm such as trying to duplicate dangerous stunts.
